Day One: Eureka, CA to San Jose, CA

Miles today: 319 Total Miles: 319
My plan had been to leave Eureka by 4 pm so I could clear Ridgewood Summit between Willits and Ukiah before dark. Since after that summit, the road is pretty straight and easy compared to the northern componet between Willits and Eureka. Since I didn't leave until 6pm, it was full dark by the time I got to Willits and the grade. I hate driving at night, and doing the grade at night was quite the experience. Even with the late schedule, couldn't pass up the oppertunity to drive up to the Marin Headlands which I have never done before. What a view I've been missing! It was suprisingly busy for the time of night with a number of other photographers. Here are the shots that I got:

And yet another of the bridge...

The one nice thing about leaving so late is that it was after 11 pm by the time I hit San Fran, and that is the quickest that I've never driven through that city. Normally it takes a good hour, I think this time it was around 20 min. Got to San Jose, barely awake at 1230 am.
